NGARUAWAHIA. April 24, 1876.
Out District Board is setting an example to other Boards in •commencing pushing on necessary Toad repairs at once before the summer weather breaks. The Toad near Soldier's Bridge is to be at once formed and metalled, and I hear other necessary works will be proceeded with forthwith. The railway bridge is fast neanng completion, and the upper structure will soon -be finished, , Many of your readers will remember Walter Gamble. a 'blacksmith, formerly of Churchill. His body haß been discorered, I hear, close to the riverside, near Meremere. He Tiad been, missed some time. When found his appearance was truly awful. There was emly a -portion of the body, the remainder of the flesh having been eaten by fish or rats. The body was identified by his watch and some other articlesfouud in his clothes. What has become of the memorial got •up some two months ago, and sent to Auckland for further signature, asking the 'Government to put up our suburban lands mat a leasonable price ? It was said that it -would 'be sent to your paper for publication and favourable •joramont which, as 'the Times 'first ga-ve -publicity to the sugigestion might have been fairly looked for.
