ALEXANDRA. April 19th.

The l*t« r*ms «.nd present wet weather are heartily welcomed here, for the water in the Waipa has been so low for some time past that the steamers have not been able to come higher up than Te Bore, which adds carriage to the cost of freight -both of produce, despatched from the district, and goods brought up. The Maori crops have been fairly good this year. There is a large quautity of corn and oats iv the market here. The maize is excellent, but I am sorry to Bay much of the wheat and oats grown by the natives this year, especially the oats, it smutty. Tawhiao is at last about to leave Kawhia, where he has been for some time pant ostensibly engaged in agricultural operations, kut really, it is said, keeping out of the way of Winiata till the fuss has blown over. The Maoris have novr mad« up their minds that the Government are willing to let this murder slide with tr.e ■peat, and Tawhiao is accordingly on his way to Te Kuiti. A great gathering of the new religionists (the Tareaos) has been called to meet him oa his return. Poihipi arrived the day before yesterday with hit followers, and many other chiefs of nott are following him. The meeting, it it anticipated, will 'be a large one, and special house accommodation is being pro vided for visitors. The King's invitation, which is » general one, is, I am told, somewhat remarkable in its phraseology. The guests are warned to come in " spofc. less robes." Whether this is to be taken literally or metaphorically we shall doubtless .learn hereafter. At any -rate, all the Maori world will be there, and doab less thß King's .utterances on many important subjects will be delivered.-— tFaoie a Correspondent.
