ALEXANDRA'S FAREWELL.
Mine host 'good-bye ! one last embrace, O cruel fate, our souli to sever ; Yet in our hearts' most sacred place, 'Tv tbou alone •halt dwell for tier. Mistib Editor,— Gloom reigns orer our usually cheerful township. Sadness is around. Stately Pirongia vail* her lofty lie ad like a desolate «nA ■orrow itrioken maiden. The haughty Saxon, the mercural Celt, the lordly Hau, hau, the phlegmatic -Qfctchman, the merry laughter loving Maori nj^en— all, all are tad, a gloom half aa thick again aa Egypts's is over them. The dogs even lie down to the universal sorrow and ar* too heartbroken to "go for" the lively flea, labile ever and aoon lugubrious howls wake tht echoei of those lone hilli — WhyP Because anot'ier resident it departing from our midst. We will meet but we -will miss him. That youthful yet portly form, that cheerful countenance, that broad and ample brow, that jovial companion and right worthy *hosfc, will travel and be seen by vi no more again for ever. Under the circumstances we resolved to present him with a slight memento which might keep us " grten" in his remembrance. The most heart-broken of as are collecting, for employment is sorrow's antidote, and we may pw> ohance escape the " general ante" The Uar of sin glisten's in my eye as I write. Excuse it Mr Editor, oould jou help it, iif you knew him ? I gutss not. For still shall recollection trace, ,In fancy's mirror ever near ; Each smile, "each look, that form, that fae», Though lost to eight, to memory dear.
