TE AWAMUTU. 'March 13th.

Winiata has at length come to-life, and operiij ■hewn himself at Te Kuiti, aud most of those who have come in lately hare seen and spoken to him. He contirrai the account \rhich you lately published of his journey through Moerangi, crossing at Taupiri, and coming up the Wai pa through Alexandra, add also affirms that he only asiisted a half-caste in tUe murder. They are evidently proud of his having effected hit escape and call him a bra»e man who has proved himself such by baffling pursuit, and say that ■ tha King and Chiefs will never give him up. They say that anyone would be murdered tha 1 went up to try and g«t him and that a party of them were nearly firing upon Te Rete the native who carries tone G-overnment lettefa to Te Kuiti. Winiata is now 'at Tumutumu, a settlement between Te Kuiti and Mokau, and in company with the notorious murderer Te Koote, is collecting an armed baud for his defence. 'They are said to have any quantity of arms. Te Wheoro is perhaps the only man that could go up with impunity |and with some chance of effecting his capture, and if the King refused to surrender him upon demand, no one porhapa would be better able to came a diviiion amongst them and prevail upon some of the tribes to capture him in spite of the King. It is quite time that we made some attempt to divide and conquer them and we merer had ft better chance, i — OWJK C»BKEBPONWiKT.
