SCHOOL COMMITTEE ELECTION.

Feb. 2, 187 G. In accordance with advertisement the annual meeting of persons entitled to vote for the new Local School Committee took place on the 3lnt ult. Mr Geo. Edgecumbe in the chair, Mr James Hume gave a statement of the proceedings of the commissioners for the past year, after which the following 1 persons were elected as Committee for the current year, viz :—: — Messrs L B Harris, W Butcher, Giffuey, T V Fitzpatrick and R Simnis. Before the meeting closed the folloAving resolution was passed :—": — " That a vote of thanks be lecorded on the minute book of I the School Committee to Mr James Hume, for the interest and trouble lie has always taken in the cause of Education in this township." Several of the old settlers spoke in praise of Mr Hume's exertions in behalf of the school for over seven years, and exprossed their deep regret at the cause of his having to discontinue, i. c. ? his leaving Ngaruawahia. At a meeting of the new School Committee on the 31st, Mr L B Harris was elected Chairman, and Mr J T Giffney, Secty. Mi T W Scott, Ponsonby, Auckland, was appointed teacher, vice Mr James Glanfield, resigned. — Own Correspondent.
