The Otago Presbyterian Synod has passed a resolution granting permission for the use of instrumental music where a large majority of the congregation desire 1 it. Several ministers protestod. Wellington. Sir Julius Vogel was supposed to have arrived at Hokitika to-day by the Alhambra. He was not, however, on board but lias left Melbourne for Sydney to arrange the Frisco mail service, and will arrive next week in New Zealand by the ' Arawata.'
