RAGLAN. MURDER.
An attempt at murder was committed here on Tuesday last, by a man named Baker, formerly a sailor, and who has previously misconducted himself and been committed to gaol while resident at this settlement He has been once before in Mount Edeu for using the knife.
He and his wife, a European woman had been living on Young's run, and it appears he had been jealons of her for some time past and had more than once threatened her life. On Tuesday he pretended to leave the run for Whata Whata, but returned there the same evening and went straight to the hut where she w<ia. Going up to her he drew a clasp knife from his sleeve and catching her head by the hair made an attempt to cut her throat making a slight wound and cutting her hands which she raised to save herself with. The man was at once seized.z cd. He offered no resistance, and was charged before the R M with the offence and committed for trial. — (From a CORRESPONDEN r. )
