HAMILTON WEST TOWN BELT RESERVE. PUBLIC MEETING.
In pursuance of the notice by the chairman of the Town Board, a meeting of the ratepayers ©f Hnmilton West was held last evening for the purpose of petitioning fhe Government to ■et apart the land upon the lake, between the fences of Mr Cox and Mr Jolly, as a recreation ground for the people of Hamilton West. The meeting was to have been held in 'the Court House, but through some misunderstanding that building -was not available, and it was held in th© public school-room, Mr ILongbottom occupying the ohair. A considerable number of ratepayers were present. Some discussion arose as to wbatportisnof the land abutting on the lake wai available as a public reserve, Mr Kmgsley itatiug that a portion of it had been already purchased and fenced in by Mr Cox. A plan of the locality was produced and it was explained that the portion to purchased iiever formed a part of any public reserve, but that it was gazetted as open for sale in the ordinary wsy and that in consequence it became open for selection for some months, at the Land Office, when Mr f Cox put in an application for it. After a rambling and desultory i conversation, Mr Hay, to expedite bufinesß, moved kl That it U desirable that th,o portion df the Hamilton town belt on the lake between Mr Cox's and Mr Jolly's -fence be set apart ad a recreation reserve for the public of Hamilton West, such reserve to include the use of the lake, and to be vested in the authorities for 'the time being of the said township." Mr Vialou seconded the resolution which was carried by 13 votes to 7. Mr Vialou then .proposed and Mr Hay teconded the following resolution, " That a committee consisting of the members of the Town Board, Mr Enox and the mover be appointed to prepare a memorial to the General Government for the purpose of carrying out the foregoing resolution, and that the memorial be placed in the hands of our representative." The resolution having been put by the chairman of the meeting was carried unanimously. A vote of thanks to the chairman concluded the business.
