Application itor new License.— Mr Whitaker appeared on behalf of Mr W H M Lovell, who had applied for a license for a house at Taupiri, and asked leave to withdraw th« application in consequence of a letter signed by Mr Ja«. Stewart, the district Engineer, m which-that gentleman objected to the opening of a licensed house in consequence of the number of men employed by the Cover-ruent on pubHo works aome of wlii'li, such as blasting men were of a dangerous character, and that it might bo a Berious inconvenience to the Government were a license grunted in the neighbourhood. Mv'Whitaker stated that though t"he letter had not been formerly lodged as an objection las client would withdraw the application in deference to the opinions expressed in it. There was an objection he was aware lodged by the Kay Mr Ashwell, but the withdrawal was not made in consequence of that objection which was a merely frivolous and vexatious one. Leare to withdraw the application was granted.
