Commercial. Waikato Times Office. Friday evening.

Wooii tn New Zbmand. — The following letter addressed to Messrs Osborne and Co., wool staplers' Auckland, from Messrs Thomas and Cook, of Basing-haU-street, London, has been handed to us for publication. " 17, Basinghall-street, London, Sept. 21st, \875.~ Messrs Joseph Osborne and Co., Auckland. Dear Sirs, — We had this pleasure la*t by the Brindisi mail of the 3rd instant. There has not been much change ia the sales since that date. The better classes of wool, beins comparatively ssarce, keep moderately steady, but fluctuate somewhat from n'ght to night Inferior and faulty sorts, however, still sell with the same irregularity that we before alluded to, and the bulk or the withdrawals, which continue to be large, nearly every evening consists of these descriptions. Cape wools are firm. The wool from New Zealand romprizes a very large quantity of 'mongrel 1 wool. Growers appear to have exercised no discretion whatever in their selection of ram? for crossing, but have used any so-called 'long- haired' rams, without regard to hrepd and lustre. The consequence is that a deal of the wool in these sales is poor bred, ' ecrunty,' and devoid of lustre, and buyers seem hardly to know what purpose it can be used for. It Is too coarse and bard for clothing purposes and too short for combing. In attempting to grow crossbred wools, r.reat regard must be had to the pasture age. Lonpr-wGolled sheep, as you will know, require richer, heavier, and more luxuriant pasturag-' than short-woolled sheep. From your practical knowledge of the woollen and worsted trades, you will be able to explain to the growers what are the essential requisites for each. It is a pitty to see wool so thoroughly spoilt for either purpose."
