PUBLIC HALL FOR HAMILTON.

For some time past attempts hare been made to provide a Public Jlall for Hamilton but without success. Every yeur, as the settlement has increased, benefit societies have been established, amateur concerts and entertainments become more frequent, and we have had the occasional advent of professional talent from Auckland, the want of such a building has become more and more felt. Lately the Good Templars have keenly felt the necessity for some suitable place in which to hold their lodge meetings and have been endeavouring to start the movement. On Thursday evening, however, a few gentlemen, casually met together, discussed the matter and came unanimously to the conclusion that not only would tuch building" be a great public convenience, but a capital business speculation. Yesterday the matter was taken fairly in hand, and it was resolved to form a Joint Stock Company, consisting of five hundred shares of one pound each, and before the day was out so large a number were subscribed for as to warrant the taking of further action. A Prospectus will be at once issued, and a meeting of shareholders will be called during the course of next week to appoint a working committe and call for tenders. It is intended, we understand, to call up the subscribed capital in monthly calls of five shillings, and to have the Hall built by the end of March, and from the energy and spirit of those associated in the undertaking", there is every reason to believe that not only will the attempt this time be a success, but that it will be carried into execution with the least possible delay.
