R. M. COURT, NGARUAWAHIA. (Before W. N. Searancke, Esq, R.M.) (From our own Correspondent.) Friday, Nov. 19. 1875.
William Gibbons, aged IG, was indicted for an indecent assault on a half-caste girl, aged 12. After hearing* a good deal of evidence his \Vor3hip convicted the prisoner of common assault, and sentenced him to 11 day's imprisonment with hard labour. It is quite possible that at the end of the sentence some other charges of similar nature will be brought against the prisoner. The girl could hardly be induced to give her evidence until a person of her owu sex was found to interpret for her. She also showed almost a total want of religious and moral training, which reflects not favourably on those who had charge of her in her early years.
