SPECIAL TELEGRAMS. (From our own Correspondents.) Auckland, Monday evening.
The Rev. Father Paul's furniture was seized to-day to satisfy a judgment for the Education rate. It will be sold by auction. James Looma, of Panmure, was driving round the corner of Vulcan Lane a cart, the shaft struck a Maori, and the Worse's foot trod on his bare toes smashing them. William Bell, a sailor, was sentenced at the Police Court, to-day, to three months for stealing suits from Oouley, waterman. A New York schooner of fifty tons has arrived from Mahurangi. Sir George Grey telegraphs in reply to tho petition urging the members to contest the Bill word by word till February, thus (Promoters of the petition per favour of the ''Evening Star'). The first part of the petition has been received. I will show it to, and consult with the Representatives, to whom it is addressed. We are contending for the cause of public freedom and of the rights of the constituencies. You may rely upon it that we will continue so to do. A full reply will be sent by letter, "G. Grey." Several sailors' rows occured in Auckland on Saturday night. One man was stabbed but not dangerously, and others are injured.
Coromaxdel, Monday evening. The Union Beach jumping case is of no importance. The land pegged off is only the foreshore below high water mark. It is nowhere near workings. The body of Captain Gillies, drowned while proceeding home from Beeson's Island, was found floating in harbour. Gisborne, Monday evening. An influential meeting decided in favor of immediate Abolition. Dunedin, Monday evening. A fire destroyed the Phoenix warehouse loss £3,000, mostly insured. Port Chalmers, Monday evening. The British ship, Emperor, has arrived from London after a voyage of 98 days.
