AUSTRALIAN TELEGRAMS.
Sydney. The Assembly almost unanimously endorsed the San Frauciseo mail contract for £89,000. The Postmaster-General stated that there was no hope of recovering the sums forfeited by the former contractors. Forbes had lost £40,000 over the contract, and the sureties had become insolvent — The steam Collier Easby, bound for Wellington, twice put bick to Sydney, quite unmanageable in a gale through over-load-ing.
Melbourne. The Go vernmenthave carried the tariff by a majority Qf only one. They will probably either ask for a dissolution, or resign.
