Operationselsewhere have been suspended. — The weather in England ib now fine. — The Government will introduce a temporary but thorough-going measure intended to replace fthe Merchant 'Shipping Bill, withdrawn a few days ago by Mr. Disraeli, and against the withdrawal of which Plimsoll protested. It is considered that this concession is brought about by the pressure of public opinion. Duncan Sherman and Co., of America, have failed j liabilities one million. Newcastle, Friday evening. Mr. George Sihbin, auctioneer, held a large sale of bankrupt stock, on Thursday, and to-day, and nearly invoice prices were realized. The steamer Waikato is expected iiere in a few days.
Auckland, Friday eveniug. At the produce sales to-day, poi&toes realised 4s (id to 6s; good s.i!g butter. 7d to Is 2d ; Oaaterbary oats, 3s 3d to 3s 9d;
pumpkins, 5s to 9s per cwt ; large fowls, 2a to '3a 3d. There was a great demand for turkeys at 2a to 6s 3d. Rhubarb roots were sold at Jq to 2s 9d per dpz. ; Berkshire sucking pigs, 10s to 12s 6d each. — The Cyp h rene3, with the outward mails for San Francisco, sailed at 5 p.m. — Four deaths from typhoid fever registered in the city during the month of July. — At the Police Court to-day, George Bay was sentenced to six months for stealing fowls. William Evans, landlord of the Pacific Hotel, was charged with selling drink on Sunday. Two Constables proved the discovery of indifferent characters who confessed they had been served with liquor, but both women now came forward and swore to the oontrary. The case Was therefore dismissed. — The Auckland Cricket Committee appointed to arrange for a visit of an Australian team met to-day, and de* cided that the terms proposed by the Australians are such aS cannot be accented.
GrRAHAMSTOWN. At the Resident Magistrate's Court today, au electionee ring agent sued bis party for services rendered by signing objections to persons believed to be Orangemen claiming to vote. — Caledonians are much inquired for, on the supposition that they will take up the Cure run. of gold.

Wellington, Friday evening. His Excellency the Governor was present at the O'Connell centenary cele brations. He and Sir 'George Grey spoke warmly of O'Connell's labors in the cause of freedom. The affair was a great sue cess. *
' Christchurch. A public meeting has unanimously endorsed the abolition proposals.
