* Before W. N. Sbabanoxx, Esq., B. M. An application for a Protection Order was made by Mr W. Whitaker on behalf of Mrs McCann, under the Married Woman's Property Protection Order Ant. An affidavit was read in support of the application. The application was adjourned in order that facility might be afforded to obtain a deed of separation between the parties. J. P. CAMPBELL Y. Defendant at first denied the claim. He said he was away splitting shingles at Mangapiko, during some part of the time, during which he was alleged to have received goods. Anne Webb, wife of defendant, stated that Walker's man came up in December last and wanted to buy some hay. She told him to go and look at it. He came back and agreed to give £6 for it, which he would pay next day. Mr Walker came himself soon after. Mr Walker paid £2 and made her a present of a bottle of wine. When she came to get the balance of the money, Mr Walker refused to pay. But he subsequently paid her £2, making £4 in all, and leaving a balance of £2 due on the hay. Cross examined by plaintiff. — I do not think the man told me he came for the hay on your behalf I saw you (plaintiff) at Mr Laird's bar. I was th ere. You said it was a bad bargain.
