We have been at somj pains to inquire into the grounds of Mr Hewitts complaint, and we find that the language of the report did give an erroneous colour to Sergeant Ohitty's remarks, and tha^he denies having used the precise langua^eimuutelL to hia^ The facts appear to be that Mr^H^itt'iwisrstom&fs are not exactly of the Upper\Terti ßrfe the^o^S&co.nducteci with sufficient respecth£ifity^ta,ans\rer "fofeexisting^ requirements, or the license would nave been withheld. We do not quite approve of the tone which Mr Hewitt adopts in his letter, but that is entirely a matter of fcaste. We shall be always willing to do» the fullest justice, and to correct errors in any statement of facts which may appear in the Times, but no threats wiH influence our judgment, nor shall we withdraw any statements which we believe ta betrue — Ei>.
