Waimate, Tuesday. The first issue of the " Tribune," a local paper, has been published.
T&uranga, -Tuesday. The news which reached us yesterday from Wellington, of the death of the wife of Mr under-Sec-cretary Clarke, was received with profound sorrow throughout the district.
Napier, Tuesday. In consequence of the failure to ascertain the nature of " travelling shingle,' i at Port Ahuriri, other means will be adopted for the improvement of the port.
Christchurch, Tuesday. The land sales yesterday amounted to 1,323 acres, realizing .£2,64.2. i
Grahamstown, Tuesday. At the police court, Thomas Edwards was committed for trial for shootiiig John Toovey, and wounding him in the right leg with shot. Prisoner acknowledged firing the shot, and made a long statement, respecting Toovey having taken away his wife. He did not intend to kill him but only to maim him. It *is stated here that immediately upon taking over the delegated powers of the gold field, which is exDQQted to occur in the course of a day or two, Sir George Grey will pay a visit to the Thames, and spe^l some time in order to make himself acquainted with the requirements of the district and fche working of the Acts.
