C orrespondence.

To the Editor of the Waikato Times. S IR) — I cannot allow your remarks upon the late a ricultural exhibition to pass unnoticed, as you could not, I am sure, have been acquainted with the real facts, when you wrote the article to which I refer. You say that "each year since the first, the show has not evidenced improvement, but on the contrary retrogression ; the quality of the prize animals has been abc^ut the same, but there has each year been fewer of them." Now, these statements I emphatically deny ; I say that the quality of the stock this year was far superior to that shown at either of the previous shows ; and if proof is needed for this assertion, it is to be found in the fact that in many of the classes, the same animals were shown that took prizes last year, and with hardly an exception, they were passed by as unworthy of notice. As regards the number exhibited, it is true that in some cases the competition was slight, but in others there were far more entries than on any previous occasion, so that upon the whole there was little difference in number of exhibits between last year and this. These, sir, are the statements I wish to correct. When you pass on to urge the desirability of the whole of the Waikato uniting on this subject, I can agree with you, but still I must be allowed to say that the Central Waikato Association has done all in its power to bring about such a result. Tt has offered to meet the Horotiu half way ; and it has offered, if that is not feasible, to agree to an alternate show. What more it can do, I do not know, except lie down and say, " Pray, walk over mci" and that I do not think it will do at present. I am, &c, J. H. Mandeno. Te Awamutu, March 24, 1875.
