OHNEMURI. (From the Daily Southern Cross.)
Mackaytown Tbe prospectors have commenced work on the reef, and have already taken out goodsized blocks of sfone similar to that exhibited by Smith and Coleman, and showing gold. The news from Botokohu confirms previous news" as to the "prospects and the miners there are settling down "and building substantial huts. A survey party will commence in the morning to mark out the Waikauri'^track, com mencing from the back of Takerei's house, midway ' between Paei^a and Mackaytown. The news from "Waitekauri is. not very imoprtant. j Leahy's party are putting in two divers, on at about 30 feet level, i the other at 70. The upper drive will be into the reef at the end of this week or early next week. They have not seen much gold ?n the rock, but good dish prospects from the mullock. Porter's party of claimants for No. 1 South, decline to amalgamate with the others ; they say they will fight it out. The other three parties Jhave amalgamated. Confidence in the resources of this place has increased to an alarming extent. On my road to Mackaytown from Te Puke I was met by nunfbsrs of parties who &>Jd me that very rich gold had been found in the prospectors' claim. Although doubting the reports which I had heard, as being too good to be true, I hurried to the spot, and have just returned I found the reef fairly opened upon. The reef is 4ft. thick, and had a clear well- defined hanging wall, snd a moderately good foot wall; the lode was composed of of stone, between which there were seams of that white sugary stuff which will be so readily recognised by those working the ' Waiotahi, are the invariable accompaniment of goldenstone.
