Eaily yesterday morning another fiie bioke out in a south-westerly dhection from Maiong, at the back of th« Mensie Reef. Laige volumes of smoke weie obseivcd rising fiom the unges all day, and the heat round about was intense. The woodcaiteis in some instances have had stacks of wood destroyed which had been accumulating for some months. In close proximity to the township of Maiong a fiie was taking everything befoie it in a remarkably furious niannei. On each side of the line fiom Woodend and Macedon foi miles tne and smoke is to be seen, and the heat is tenible. Mr. Dwyer, the well-known local sui \ eyor and staff had to lun for their lives.
