MEETING OF THE HAMILTON WEST TOWN BOARD.

A meeting of the members of this Board took place at Mr Grwynne's on Tuesday evening last. There was a good attendance, and a considerable amount of business was disposed of. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed, and the meeting entered upon a length}' discussion on tho question of forming the road in Anglesea and Collingwood streets. The specification had stipulated that the roadway should be 15 feet wide. Messrs Knox and Morris contended that it would not be advisable to go to the unnecessary expense of an 18 feet roadway when 12 or 14 feet would be ample. The Chairman informed the meeting that the ! matter had been left in his hands, and that as the | tenders they had received had been computed on the understanding that the roadway was to be 18 fcvt wide, objections were then too late. Messrs Knox and Morris remarked that if the roadway were made 18 feet in width, the funds would not hold out. Mr Morris said that he mentioned the matter at the last meeting of the Board. The Chairman was ot opinion that if it were decided to make the road less than 18 feet wide, it would be necessary to call for frssh tenders. Mr Knox said that the tenders could be accepted subject to a reduction in price corresponding with the difference in the width of the road. Mr Morris moved, " That the road be 12 feet instead of IS feet wide, as mentioned in the specification, and that the tenders be accepted, subject to a corresponding reduction in price. Mr Kuox seconded the resolution. — Carried. The tenders were then opened. Mr Morris moved, "That Mr Andrew's tender be accepted at a reduction corresponding with the alteration in the width of the road. Mr Kuox .seconded. — Carried. Mv Morris moved, " That plans and specifications be rurle out for the formation of the road leading down to the punt." _

It was subsequently decided thafc the matter should stand over until receipt of reply from the Government. • It was resolved that the furze opposite Mr Tanfield's property be cut down at his expence, in accordance with the Act. Mr Knox moved, " That Mr Calderwood be instructed to visit the various streets of the township for the purpose of reporting upon those overgrown with furze, and that on receipt of the report the proprietors of property so overgrown be served with notices to remove the same." The Chairman seconded, and it was carried. Mr Calderwood was instructed to prepare plans and specifications for a' culvert over Hinton's creek.
