(To the Editor of the Waikato TijjJSS) Sir, — In your leader of the 19th, you state that you never heard of the newly appointed Governor of Fiji, and doubtless your Wellington contemporaries, who are indignant at the appointment, are equally ignorant of Sir Arthur Gordon's antecedents. Allow me to state that the Honorable Sir Arthur Hamilton Gordon, K.C.M.G., is no new or untried man. He is the son of that distinguished statesman of world-wide lame the 4th Ealr of Aberdeen, and represented Beverly in tiie House of Commons for some years. He has beni Governor of Nova Scotia and Mauritius ; be is a man of undoubted ability and in the prime of life, and I think Fiji may well be congratulated on having such a Governor. — Yours &c, Patrick Leslie.
