He pleaded that it was left at his house by an officer of the Robario, but failed to prove the assertion. There has been a narrow ■ escape from fire at Nome's hairdresser in Shortland street, to-day. Supposed to have been caused by a spark from a chimney from an adjoining house, which whs on tire. It was extinguished after burning a hole in the roof, by the prompt application of water.
