A gale of wind was blowing last night. The Waipara is high and dry. She will require launching four hundred yards. The river is flooded. The protective works are preventing any damage to Greymouth ; but there are serious encroachments at Cobden. The river is running immediately behind houses in the main street. Several buildings ai'e in course of removal. Westport, Tuesday, The river rose rapidly at 4.30 a.m., but little damage was done compared with former floods. The «hief encroachment is at the corner of Moleswortli street- The old Times office, Fallas' store, and some cottages are now being pulled down. The stone groin at Nelson street has saved the lower part of the township. The Orawaiti river is flooded, and news last night was received from the Lyell of floods. Greytown, Tuesday. The flood covered the town again yesterday. Mr O'Mear's house'was washed away. The family and furniture were removed by neighbours. The flood still rising. In the Hutt district the highest flood for many years has occurred. The damage is unimportant yet. Rain continues, and traffic is suspended. Masterton flooded by the Waipoua. Miles of fencing . have been destroyed near Masterton, and there has been a great loss ©f cattle and sheep throughout the district. Several small bridges beyond gone. All the culverts and bridges near Greytown are more or less damaged. Christchurch, Tuesday. Very hoavy rains have occurred lately. Eain fell almost incessantly on Sunday morning and Monday night. Several rivers have overflowed their banks, but there is no serious damage yet. It is still showery. It is still raining. Most of the unbridged rivers are impassible. The Waimakariri has overflowed its banks, and" flooded part of tho town of Kajapoi, .damaging the northern railway line in two places, causing a temporary suspension of traffic. No sign of the weather cleaving up yet. Tiiuaru, Tuesday. There has been heavy weather during tho }>ast few days. Tho rivei-s north and south arc flooded. The northern approach to the Opilii bridge has been washed away, also tho embankment in tho Tengawai rivor.
