To-day is fine, but there is a prospect of more ' rain. Slight damage has been done by water on low-lying portions of the city. Heavy raina, and the heaviest snow known for years are reported from the mining districts. A number of penons left by the Tararua for the Palmer Diggings this afternoon- This vessel will probably be laid on direct in a few weeks, when it is expected largo numbers will go. A meeting of the shareholders in the Colonial Bank was held thia afternoon. The Chairman stated the number of shares applied for in each province was :— Otago, 10,671; Napior, 8200; Westland, 5054 ; Marlborough, 2177 ; Trranaki, 1078; Nelson, SGIS; Auckland, 8121 ; Wellington, 17,531 ; Christchurch, 13,367. Tot*l, 169,779. This number is represented by 3^0,0 shareholders. Three thousand shares were reserved. The result of the ballot for Directors is not known yet.
