LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL. (From the Anglo-Australian Telegraph Agency) Tuesday.
In the Legislative Council the Hon Mr Richmond's motion for the appointment of a committee to consider the salaries of the Council officers, was carried. The Hon Mr Eraser, in moving for information as to what steps the Government have taken towards the introduction into the gaols of the colony of a reformatory system at present in force in gaols in Europe and America, urged the establishment of two central depots, one in each Island- For the South the one should be in Lyttelton harbour, and for the North on Soame's Island. The Hon Dr Pollen said that next session the Government would bring down ii definite proposal for the establisment of such institutions.
