At the meeting held at Mr Vogel's residence today forty-five members were present, two sent adherence, and the meeting unanimously agreed to oppose Mr Fitzherbert's resolutions and defeat them without a protracted discussion. They also unanimously agreed to support the Government in their endeavour to abolish the provinces of the North Island. No reference to the Seat of Government and Land Fund being made, it was understood that there was a general desire to leave the two latter questions as they are. Somo suggested that there should bo a now session within a few weeks after the olose of the presont session, but the subject was allowed to drop, it n,Qt, being deemed expedient. It was the

largest and inonb cordial caucus that has ever been held in "Wellington, and to -the ultimate result of the proposition there are Various other adheients whose support is certain when the time aiuive 1 , It is felt by all that this movement is but the first step. Stafford and Vogel will speak on Monday on Fitzherbert'a motion, and unless .specially desired it is expected that fsw, if any, on the same side will join in tho debate.
