CORRESPONDENCE. [We do not necessarily endorse the opinions expressed by our correspondents.] PUNT AT WHATA WHATA.

(To the Editor of the Waikato Times.) Sir, — Will you allow ma, through the medium of jour journal, to call attention to fehe unsafe and disgraceful state of the punt at What a Whata. In|several instances horse's feet have broken through- the planks, which are in a state of drcuj, and when I last passed there were only two or three left, — teavellers, in consequence) hare to swim their horses, and if they have ridden smartly, must wait till their horses cooi or cross at the risk of serious injury to the animals. I understand that the Chairman of the Board excuses himself by saying that the steamers cannot get up the rirer, consequently no timber it procurable. The steamers, since the punt was in its prelent state, have be«n many times up the river, but only on one occasion did they bring a few paltry plants. A person offered to repair the punt, with rough-sawn timber, for £2. The offer was refused. The present state of the punt can be ascribed to no other causes than neglect and indifference on the part of thoie whose duty it is to see after suoh matters. —I am, &a, J.H.E.
