0\ Saturday, the Cil. n.st , n return match wa<» to liavo been plined between the Aimed Constabulary and Settlers. A marquee was erected the previous etening in a paddock belonging to Mr Fun ell. Consequent on the threatening appearance of the weather somo of the players did not show up ; those present, how m or, were not to be done out of their day's sport, so captains of teams were elected and a scratch match was arranged — settlers and Armed Constabulary on one side and wttlers only on the other. The play resulted as follows --
The small scores are to be accounted lor b) the •splendid bowling of Mc^rs A. E. Cox, W. Uond, and W. Pilling. The playeis declared it the best thej had stood against in the district. It had been previouah arranged that the losing side was to pay for a dinner, winch was provided by Mr Cummings of the Royal Hotel. Our repoi ter was not pi e>ent at the dinner, so we are unable to inform our readers as to what took pluee at the festno board During the match the plajera were honoured with the presence of a goodly lumibor of ladies, and man\ lovers of 1 lie old English game.
