DROWNING FATALITIES.
———<♦>——-.— . BOATING MISHAP. AUCKLAND, To-Day. Robert Brown, 34, was drowned on Sunday by the capsizing of a boat containing a fishing party, when struck by a squall after rounding North Head. Others of the party were Charles Anderson, Harry Corrigan, Charles Yarwood. The four men held to the upturned boat for about half an hour then Brown disappeared. The.others were rescued by a sailing l boat. Brown is -survived by a wife and three children. CANOE CAPSIZES. Ira Broxton 23, a resident of Mangcre, was drowned oh the Pamurc beach while rowing to a yacht in _a. collapsible canvas canoe after midnight. White, one of the yacht crew, who is a strong swimmer, dived and grasped Buxton but after ten minutes lost hold of deceased and in the. darkness could not locate him again. Broxton was a prominent athlete. He was an upholsterer by trade and resided with his widowed mother at Mangerc. SENSATIONAL SURFING ACCIDENT. ■IN SHARK INFESTED WATERS. WHANGAREI, To-Day. A sensational surfing accident occur; red at Ruakaka Beach on Saturday afternoon, six persons being in jeopardy for upwards of an hour before all were finally brought ashore. Two girls, Minnie McMillan, aged 14, and Mamie Graham, fifteen, got into difficulties at an isolated and dangerous spot, and four young men, who attempted a rescue were also quickly in trouble. Another young man procured a rope and succeeded, after a plucky endeavour, in bringing the girl McMillan and one of the men to safety. A rowboat was eventually found a mile distant and manned by two men who rescued the other four persons, the girl Graham being in a state of extreme exhaustion. ' ' ' The anxiety of the spectators was in-tensified-by the . knowledge that the locality is usually infested by sharks at this season of the year.
