GAME OF BOWLS WAIPUKURAU y. PUKEOBA A return bowling, match was played yesterday afternoon on the local green between two ’ teams representing. - the Sanatorium and two local club. A most enjoyable afternoon-was spent, the. true sporting spirit-being in great evidence. Mr McKay on behalf- of the visiting bowlers thanke.d the Waipukurau Club for their invitation to play the match, and assured them-that they had spent a most happy afternoon. “They looked forward,” he said, “to further bowling matches with their Waipukurau friends.” Mr W. Johnstone replied on behalf of the home Club and said that it had been a great pleasure to the local club to have them with them. He assured them that they (Waipukurau bowlers) would f?ec that further like matches followed. The result of the afternoon’s play was as follows, the Sanatorium teams being mentioned first: Stanley, Winterbottom, Potaka, McKay (s.) 18, v. Rood, Maroney, Harper, Murphy (s.). 22. Taylor, Jamieson, Sheppard, Withington (s.) 18 v. Pike, McLeod, Reekin, Petherick (s.) 19. COMMITTEE MEETING. A committee meeting of the Waipukurau Bowling Club was held in Mr Johnstone’s Office on Tuesday evening last. Those present were: Messrs' D’Anvers, president (in chair), Hall, Johnstone, Louric, Richards, Moore, and the secretary (G. L. Chatwin). An apology for absence of Mr Mathieson was received. It was decided to hold a , Pairs Tournament at Easter on the same lines as last year, arangements to be left in the hands of the president, secretary and Mr J. Richards. A record was placed on the minutes regretting the loss to the club (and to the town) of Mr C. Saunders, and old and valued member and one-time sec. and treasurer.

The committee, on Mr Saunders’, departure, had presented him with a goldmounted fountain pen and a letter of appreciation and good wishes from the members of the club. It was decided to forward a donation of two guineas to the Waipukurau Orphans’ Club in appreciation of their valuable services in raising funds for the erection of conveniences on the green.

The electric lighting of a part of the green was fully discussed but nothing was definitely decided on the question.
