LOCAL FIRE.

BLAZE IN JELLICOE STREET. Shortly aft'ef~'2 p.m. the Fire Brigade received. a call to a grass fire which had broken out in the vicinity of •Jellicoe Street. 'The outbreak originated at the rear of Mr Le Barr’s dwelling, and quickly spread through the adjoining sections, which were overgrown with rank dry grass. A plantation of gum trees was quickly ablaze, and the flames had a strong hold on the hedge at the rear of the old Manse when the Brigade arrived on. the scene, but a good lead of hose was quickly brought into play, and the blaze was checked before any great damage was done. Fortunately, the prevailing wind drove the fire across a vacant section, otherwise several new dwellings in Jellicoe Street would have been seriously menaced.
