Mr A. E. Cooke, the notable All Black and Hawke’s Bay Rugby footballer, is shortly leaving Napier for Masterton, where he is entering' into partnership in a business. Miss E. M. Taylor, formerly Matron of the Apia Hospital (Samoa), is at present acting as Matron of the Pukeora Sanatorium, vice Miss M. Thurston, 0.8. E., R.R.C, resigned.
Mrs Ashton Chambers has been appointed wardrobe mistress for the Operatic Society’s production of “Dorothy.” Miss M. Stabler, is also to be a member, of the wardrobe committee.
Messrs Parata (manager) and S. Gemmell, of the Maori Rugby team, reached Fremantle yesterday by ■ the Narkunda, from London. Mr Parata has recovered from the illness from which' he suffered in " France.-—Press Association.
Mr W. A. Low, the well-known theatrical manager, has arrived in Waipukurau to make arrangements for the appearance of the Joseph Cunningham Zillah Bateman English Comedy Company, at the Municipal Theatre, next Wednesday. Mr Low has had a wide experience in theatrical having been closely associated with J. C. Williamson for many years, and has also managed for the famous Pollards, Robert Brough, Hugh J. Ward, Grace Palotta, Carrie Moore,- Annette Kellerman, Brinsby Williams, Maud Allan, and numerous other artists of distinction. In bringing, the latest company to Waipukurau, Air Low assures us that it is up to the high-class standard of the many he has brought to New Zealand -during his long career in the profession.
