CATHOLIC MISSION
The week’s mission conducted by Father Lowham in the Waipukurau Catholic Church was concluded on Sunday night. The services throughout the week were well attended, and Father Lowham’s eloquent and powerful discourses were attentively listened to. At the last service on Sunday night such large numbers attended that many were unable to gain admittance to the church. The Rev. Father’s closing sermon, on “ Perseverance,” was particularly impressive. At the morning service on Sunday about twelve children and adults made their first Holy Communion.
Special singing had been prepared for the mission, and the congregations joined in it heartily and devoutly. Before the mission closed, Father Lowham made reference to the fact that many non-Catholic friends had attended and given a patient hearing. He also thanked Father Johnston for his hospitality and thd people for their reception. Father Lowham has gone to Wellington for a week. Next week he is to conduct a mission in Napier.
