Seven Poplar Guardians and exGuarclians were charged at Thames Police Court with conspiracy to defraud the Board of Managers of the Poplar and Stepney Sick Asylum District. A remand was granted, bail being allowed. The
prosecution alleges that frauds were conducted by allowing James Calcutt, builder, to effect repairs to. the Blackwail branch of the asylum at his own unchecked prices.
