FOOTBALL.
The Waipawa junior representatives played the Hasting SubUnion junior representatives at Hastings on Saturday, and suffered defeat, by 21 points to nil. Want of combination on the local side was the chief cause of the large score. The Waipawa forwards more than held their own against their opponents at times, both in tight and open play, but once the ball got past the front division, a score was nearly always the result* the backs not going down to it in any hearty fashion. ' McGrath and Cook, of Waipukurau, and Maroney, of Waipawa, played good games, McGrath being considered the best forward on the field. The team was most hospitably entertained. In choosing Mr Raynor as the manager for the ylay the selectors hit upon the right man for the right place, the players having nothing but praise for the able manner “Mr Harnett ” carried out his duties.
The record of the Anglo-Welsh team in New Zealand, New South Wales, and Queensland, was as follows : —Played 26, won 16, lost 9, drawn 1 ; points for 287, against 201.
