A hay cart on the wrong side of the road at Amanweiler, Lorraine, forced the German Crown Prince’s motor-car against a light railway track, and the car caught the rails and overturned. Soldiers and railway men drew the Prince and Princess clear of the car, both being uninjured.
Harry Benson, otherwise Bebro, financial agent, and George Petty, bond broker, were remanded at Westminster Police Court on a charge of conspiracy to defraud, in connection with the International Securities Corporation and Feltham’s Bank, whereof they were until lately directors. Both concerns are now in liquidation. The prosecution alleges that 18,000 poor people were defrauded by the Securities Corporation and 500 by the bank.

The paper justifies the withdrawal of British battleships from the Pacific, remarking that concentration is the first rule of naval strategy, and that a scattered fleet is of little use. Australia’s safety, the “ Daily Chronicle ” points out, is secured by Britain’s fleet," which, so long as it commands the sea, will continue to secure peace to all outlying portions of the Empire, .. ;
