HATUMA.

(FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.) On Monday night between 30 and 40 settlers a»ad friends made a raid on Mr Isdale’s, in the double role of a surprise party and housewarming. Mr and Mrs Isdale received the party in the kindly spirit in which they went. Fortunately two largo rooms had not yet been carpeted, and they were both taxed with a merry band of dancers. Mr Wright and Mr McKay supplied the music. The fine new house is built on rising ground, with a magnificent view of the lake and the Arlington and Mount Herbert estates, with a substantial background of hills. The house was most favourably commented on by all, both in regard to the owner’s taste, and the work of the architect and the builders. Dancing was kept up till the “ sma’ ’oors.” Before separating Mr J. Williamson said these social gatherings tended to create that bond of feeling which it is so desirable should exist between man and his fellows. Mr Isdale returned thanks on behalf of himself and Mrs Isdale, and said he was delighted at the visit of the party, and jwound up by inviting them to “ come back.” Mr J. Williamson has about a dozen early lambs, which are believed to be the first this seasonfin the district.
