PUTTING ON THE CLOCK.

A Select Committee of the House of Commons has reported in favour of the Daylight Saving Bill, under which it is proposed to advance the clock by one hour on the third Sunday in April, and alter it in the opposite direction by one hour on the third Sunday in September. Fantastic as- this idea may seem, it is by no means a new one, says the “ New Zealand Times,” and has been employed for years past in at least one town in New Zealand. This town is Mosgiel, in Otago, where the chief industry is the manufacture of woollens. It is highly important that the -work in the mills should ;.be carried out as much as possible in daylight, and for this purpose the factory clock is put “ on ” during the winter. The advancement is made in stages, until in midwinter there is a difference of almost threequarters of an hour between what the townspeople call “ right time” and “ factory time.”
