NOTES.

At Napier on Saturday the home team defeated the Waipawa Subunion team by nine points to three. The play generally was not up to representative form ; scrumming on both sides was unsatisfactory, the visitors being most at fault, and the winners (the lighter team) outclassed their opponents in combination and trickiness. The weather kept fine, and there was a good attendance of onlookers. A correspondent writes to the Bulletin: —All your corre po idents JC have lost sight of what 1 consider the worst feature in the amendment made by the R. U. to the rule governing sub-unions. The R.U. have the confounded cheek to make a sub-union have five clubs, when they have only three in the town themselves, but with the assistance of two country clubs, Clive and Aute —just fancy going forty miles to get a match —they manage to keep a competition going. They take good care not to allow the sub-unions to have such a wide area. The Waipawa sub-union has no legal standing, as the rules provide for five clubs to form a subunion. A meeting of the Sub-union was held at the Tavistock Hotel last night, slr Lomas in the chair. The H.B.R.U. granted £5 towards expenses of the rep. team to Napier. Waipawa club was reported for playing three members in the Junior team that were not eligible ; Mr Gebbie explained the matter satisfactorily. A motion was tabled in regard to amending the rule re the number of clubs that should constitute the sub-union. The foliowI ing matches were fixed : — East I Coast v. Waipawa County, July I 18, at Waipukurau, referee, Mr I Gooseman; East Coast v. Hastings I Waipawa, July 21, referee Mr I Gooseman; Waipawa County v. I Hastings, at Hastings, July 28. I A team of Stratford High School I boys is touring the Wellington proI viuce, playing matches. On SaturI day night they were entertained by I the Wellington R.U. I Ormondville defeated Norsewood I on Saturday by 12 points to nil.
