A SETTLER MISSING.

SEARCH PARTIES OUT. A painful sensation was caused in town yesterday alternoou when it became known that Mr J. Wolstenholme, storekeeper, of Onga, and a well-known cricketer, was missing. It appears Mr Wolstenholme left Waipukurau at 9.30 on Wednesday night in a gig for home, having attended the football matci) here. Yesterday his gig was found capsized and broken on the road about three miles from Waipukurau. The vehicle h.<d evidently rolled over the bank from the road two or three times, and was bottomup wheu found, with the rug spread out underneath. A terrier dog was lying on the rug. The horse had gone, but all the harness except the winkers was there. A man’s tie, collar, and hat were also found. Constable Baskiville and a party made search for Mr Wolstenholme, but up to last night it had proved futile. The affair is shrouded in mystery.* Later. Large parties went out this morning from Waipukurau, Waipawa, and Onga. The dog is said to be injured. The horse was found near Fairfield. Mr Wolstenholme was formerly schoolmaster at the Spit* Gorse is very thick about the locality, Mr Wolstenholme is said to be subject to fits. He is believed to have also had a large dog with A search party dragged one hole, and pulled out a dead sheep. His dog was seen in a turnip field near the river crossing. About 150 men are searching.
