School Committee Elections.

AVAIPUKURAU. The annual meeting of householders was held at the school last sixteen being present, including two ladies. lion. W. 0. Smith was voted i<> the chair. The report and balance-sheet of the out-going committee was read, and adopted on the .motion of Mr P. Barrie. The report dealt with business transacted during the year, (the major portion of which has been reported in these columns at different times). Mr Jones, assistant master, has resigned and left the district, and it was feared that owing to a dearth of teachers there would be difficulty in filling the position. The average attendance was below the number required to entitle the school to an assistant master, and an effort should be made to keep up a better attendance. Regret was expressed at Miss Court’s leaving, but the position had been ably filled by Miss Mitchell. The inspector’s report considered good. Reference made to the bad state of the fences, but repairs could not be effected out of school funds; it was expected Board would do the wvrk. Board had been asked to fix up old school for dressmaking and technical classess An outhouse to the S master’s residence had been erected and partly paid for. The appeal for school prizes had been very satisfactorily responded to by parents and others. The balance sheet showed that on 31st March last the funds stood at £l3 19s fid credit; the grants for general purposes were £4fi 4s 9d ; amount collected from parents for stationery, £3 8s lOd; the total receipts being £fi3 13s Id. lhe principal items of expenditure were — cleaning school, £lB 2s; fuel, £5; stationery, £l2 9s ; portion of cost of erection ot outbuilding, £l2. There is a balance in hand of ££ 18s 7d. On the motion of Mr Barrie, the report and balance sheet were adopted as read 1 The following were elected a commit;ee for the ensuing year (only* nominations) : — Messrs P. Gow, P. Barrie, F. Bailey, 0. . Seymour, D, Annand, Bogle, and Hopkirk. At a meeting of the new committee, Mr Gow was re-elected chairman, and Mr Barrie secretary. It was resclved that the chairman and secretary sign cheques ; that the committee meet on third Thursday in month, and that ail meetings be advertised in Waipukurau Press. The chairman explained what been done with regard to altering the old school for technical purposes, and Mr Barrie said he understood the Board had voted for the alterations. \ The chairman was empowered to get any necessary repairs effected. [Five of the old commute were elected. Messrs Nicholson and Lomas, who did not seek re-election are replaced by Messrs Annand and Hopkirk. J The old committee at Napier was re-elected.
