SUB-UNION MEETING. The annual meeting of the Waipawa County Rugby Sub-union was held on Friday evening in the Tavistock Hotel. The secretary submitted the annual report and balance-sheet, showing a credit balance of 16s 4d, the receipts amounting to £39 19s 7d, and the expenditure to £39 3s 3d; and both were adopted. The following officers were elected : — President, Mr Paul Hunter; vice-presidents, presidents of affiliated clubs, Messrs R. Coneys, ,J. J. Bailey, J. W. Harding, C. Baines, A. E. Jull, C. M. Whittington, J. M. Callender, H. M. Rathbone and 8. Johnston; secretary and treasurer, Mr G. H. Graham ; auditor, Mr G. B. Ashley ; delegates to Hawke’s Bay Rugby Union, Messrs Coliett and Graham. A letter was received from the Hawke’s Bay Rugby Union regarding a levy of £4 towards payment of expenses of representative team. The secretary explained that he had notified that the sub-union’s funds would not allow of payment. Mr Norris, who was present as a representative of the Hawke’s Bay Rugby Union, gave an opinion. Mr Roach, of Hastings, being requested to give his opinion, Mr Norris objected, as Mr Roach was a member of a disqualified union. Then ensued an exciting discussion, and Messrs Norris and Roach were requested to leave the room while the other members came to a decision. Messrs Lomas (chairman), Gebbie, and Milne spoke on the j matter. After discussion, it was held that Mr Roach could not be heard, and the respective matters were discussed in camera. The secretary’s letter was confirmed. Notice of suspension of the Hastings sub-union was received. It was decided to submit to the Hawke’s Bay Rugby Lnion a copy of the balance sheet, in terms of Rule 23, but under protest, as the delegates considered that the rule wss most arbitrary, and also ultra vires; and also to show that the levy could not be paid. It was decided to commence competitions on May 16th. Mr Collet (Waipawa) gave notice of motion, “ That no secretary of the sub-uuion to be a secretary of an affiliated club.”
