Feathered Freak at the Sydney Zoo.

— o The “Swoose”- —Half Swan Half Goose. The Swoose is a new creature in the ornithological kingdom. It is a cross between a swan and a goose, hence the term “ swoose,” which has been chosen for the new species by Mr Le Souef, Curator of the Sydney Zoological Gardens. Two of these birds are at present inmates of these gardens at Moore Park. They were bred on the Murry by Mr James Bolger, some eighteen months ago. The birds apparently inherit in equal parts the traits of their progenitors. They are fine plump specimens, and Mr Le Souef is convinced that they would be admirably suited for the’ table, if they could be produced in any quantity. Epicureans consider the swan too strong for table purposes, while the goose has scarcely enough flavor. Mr Bolger purposes breeding more “ sweese.” The original swan was caught in a trap, and has been kept by Mr Bolger for purposes of production. One of the “sweese” is inclined to the goose a good deal in color, having a white patch on the breast, while both of them have the “ voice ” of the goose.
