TOWN BOARD.
—o The Board met in Mackay & Co.’s auction mart last night. PresentCommissioners Chambers (chairman), Gore, J. Staines, Mitchell, J. Williams, J. J. Bailey, Seymour; also Mr Ashley, clerk, and Mr Fox, overseer. On the motion of Com’r Gore, seconded by Com’r Williams, it was resolved that Commissioners Bailley, Mitchell, and Chambers be a finance committee; any two to sign cheques with the treasurer. The clerk offered to share cost of post office letter box with the board. —Agr< ed to. There were two tenders [Messrs Smith and Houseman] sent in for supplying use of horse, cart and driver, that of Mr Houseman being accepted as the lowest —14s per day, timber Is per 100 ft, metal Is 4d per load, rubbish Is 2d. Accounts amounting to £lB 2s 7d were passed for payment —including, G. 11. Graham, returning officer and. acting-clerk. £6 13s; rent of Town Hall for election and meetj ings, £2 10s; Press, advertising djb- and printing, £3 10s 6d ; insurance, ' \ £Llos6d; IXAnnaud, stationery, etc., £3-18s 7a. At a previous meeting of the board Mr O’Donoghue gave notice that he intended to fence in a section through which a. road to the Town Hall ran —a road that had been used for upward of 20 years. —The chairman said he understood that t Mr O'Donoghue would fence in a way that would not interfere with the road. —The board expressed satisfaction. The clerk was authorised to arrange with Mr Norris tor joint use of safe for books, etc. Permission was granted Mr T. Nicholson to remove surface cleanings on Herbert street for filling in. The board went into committee, and finished details in reference to taking over control from the Road Board, Mr Norris being present. Existing arrangements in regard to the nightsoil contract will remain . for the present. The matter of advertising was considered. The board considered works to be undertaken, among them being the formation and kerbing of footpath between the Bank and Mr Skidmore’s corner. Resolved to expend £2o for tar for main street; to expend £l5 on cemetery 7 roan, Road Board to be asked to expend a similar amount;; Railway Department be asked to continue drain from station to cattle stop, to carry off surface water ; from post office to railway ciossing to be repaired. Arrangements made with Mr Jensen re use of pot/fld were confirmed.
