The Latest Dodge.

—0 A new method of swindling has recently been successfully tried at Palmerston North. A man, watching his opportunity, stole into various business places during the daytime and abstracted from the files a number of unpaid accounts. He then drew up cheques for the payment of the accounts, in every case leaving a good margin of “ change.” The rest was easy. He simply walked round the town, interviewed the tradesmen to whom accounts were owed, presented the corresponding cheque, pocketed the balance, and hey, presto! debts and duhs were obliterated to the satisfaction of all concerned. The awakening is not yet, for the clever rogue has not been captured.
