ATHLETIC.
' The report to be presented at the meeting of members of the Wanganui Amateur Athletic Club, to he held this evening, will show the finances of the drib to be in a satisfactory position, although the annual apprts -meeting, held on the 27th of December last'. resulted in a loss of some £5 of so. The fact that the meeting .had to be held on the 27th instead of on Boxing Day, due to the Pearce-Webb sculling race bging held on the latter day, probably, acisouhted for the falling off in public patronage. A gratifying fact which has to be recorded is that tho Caledonian Society put on an exclusively amateur programme of running events at their annual sports meeting last January, and so successful was the innovation that the. Society intends doing the same again next January. It is also pleasing to note that the Floral Fete committee intend putting on. five amateur events at the next carnival, ,to;bo hold, in February. The evening meetings held-last season were not so successful as,was hoped for, but a scheme is afoot having far its object making fheso meetings more attractive- to members during this-season, and it-is-to bo hoped that it will be the means-of awakening the interest of active members.
