Further, as part of Wanganui is now in the Patea electorate, and as changes of residence have also affected many people’s voting rights, they should also make sure that their names are on the right rolls. They should apply at once'to the Registrar of Electors, whoso office is in Bon Accord Chambers (next D. McFarlane; and Co.), Ridgway Street. Peter Bowling seeks re-election for tho presidency of tho Miners’ Federation of N.S.W. A nrohibition order ,’by .-.consent waa issued against a local resident this morning. There are at. present 72 men' employed on the Gonvillc-Casilccliff tramway construction works. Wireless advised at 9 a.m. that the Mo- \ ana will probably bo in wireless range to- f day, and tho Manuka and Aorangi tonight. In Wanganui, at 10 n.m. to-day, tho thermometer registered 62 and tho barometer 29.72. Thera was a heavy sea on tho har. Tho Weather Bureau reports:—Westerly winds, moderate to strong squally, expect showery and changeable weather. The glass is unsteady, with a tendency to fall slowly. Tides are good, and the sea considerable. A gang of Australian pickpockets is said to be operating amongst holiday crowds at present in Christchurch,, and four persons were before the Court yesterday on charges of theft of money from tho person, and were remanded.
In the Magistrate’s Court yesterday the Waterside Workers’ Union, for. which Mr Mackay appeared, sued an ex-member for ,£1 Gs, a year’s dues-in arrear. It appeared that the man had resumed his ordinary trade, but had failed to have his name taken off the l ooks.-and not obtained a clearance. Judgment was given for tho Union. Tho Governor and Lady Islington visited the Industrial "Exhioition' at Christchurch yesterday, and were obviously much impressed with both tho quality of the exhibits and tho essentially local and industrial character of tho displays. His Kxccllency briefly addressed a number of school children. Parents whose children play on tho river hank would bo well advised to warn them of a danger snot near the foot of Liverpool Street, where a falling away of the bank has left a hole down which a child might easily fall into the river. Or Muir drew tho attention of the Borough Council to the matter last evening, and the engineer was instructed to attend to it. , Tho Coronation Memorial fund to defray the cost of erection and equipment of a home at Christchurch for chronic consumptives lias closed with a total of X 4470 7s 10(1, hut some outstanding subscriptions have still to come in. The Government suhsidv of 24s in the £ will bring the total to £19834. Yesterday the Mayor received a very handsome contribui ion of .£353 12s from the Freemasons of North Canterbury. The oft-recurring question of the annoyance caused by the town clock’s chiming to boarders in the adjacent .hotel was again brought under the notice of the Borough Council last evening by Cr Spriggens, who said further complaints had been made. He suggested, that the chimes should be stopped at 10 or, 11 o'clock at night, and re-started at 6in the morning. ■ The matter was referred to tho Work* Committee. The Representation Commissioners are to be approached by the Levin Chamber of Commerce with a request to have the name “Otaki” ■ electorate altered to something better descriptive of tho district. It is pointed out that Otaki is at present an unimportant part of the' whole, though once the only town in the district. The Chamber suggested calling the electorate Horowhcnua electorate, after the county in which four-fifths of the constituency is situated, and suggests the transference of headquarters to Levin, which is now the principal town and the most centrally situated one in the electorate. The proposal of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce, that tho Railway Department should accept parcels at any station for delivery by land or sea to any town in' New Zealand, was discussed by the Levin Chamber to- > day and voted practicable'and advisable.
