SUPPLEMENTARY ROLLS.

Dei,at> in -claiming enrolment on the part of persona qualified to vote at the general .elections would now be most inadvisable, as it is probable that the supplementary rolls will be closed in about a fortnight. Iho present position is that Parliament has been prorogued until November 20, but it expires ou-November 21, and within seven days of that date the Governor will direct the clerk of the writs to proceed with the elections. The warrant will probably be given immediately after the expiry of Parliament, and the writs will be issued without delay. It is therefore most likely that the supplementary rolls will bo closed at 6 p.m. on November 23, after which no claims for enrolment can be considered. The writs are returnable in 21 days, so that the probable date of the second ballot, December 13, will come within the three weeks following November 23. Claims for inclusion in tho supplementary rolls arc now being made in large numbers, and registrars of electors , are fully occupied with the formalities J prescribed for adding now names to the ' rolls. A number of young people who anticipated voting at this year’s polls have been disqualified by recent removal into new districts, and in this connection an amendment of the Legislature Act seems desirable. Under the existing law, three .months’ residence in any electoral district is an essential qualification for enrolment for any person who has not been enrolled previously. We agree with the N.Z. Herald that there docs seem to be an injustice in the law which debars from voting a young man who has lived in New Zealand all his life.but has been required to move bis residence within a few weeks of an election.
